Why Coaching Matters

IELTS Tests Four Skills

Most students do not lose marks because their English is weak. They lose marks because they do not know the format, the timing and what examiners reward. Good coaching fixes that through structured lessons, timed practice, mock tests and personal feedback on Writing and Speaking.

Touchstone is a Punjab-based IELTS chain with branches across Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Its Amritsar centre is in the District Shopping Centre on Ranjit Avenue, the same market that houses IDP’s Amritsar office, and it has one of the largest numbers of Google reviews of any IELTS centre in the city.

Directory listings describe short ‘capsule’ classes that take one module at a time, in both classroom and online formats. This can suit students who are strong in some skills and only need to fix one or two. Ask which modules run on which days before you join.

Tips to Select the Best IELTS Coaching in Amritsar

Amritsar has more IELTS centres than most cities its size, and many sit within a few hundred metres of each other on Ranjit Avenue. Use these checkpoints, the same ones we give every student we counsel, to judge them on teaching and feedback rather than banners and band-score claims.

  1. 1

Know your target band and module first

Check whether you need Academic or General Training, and the band your course, employer or visa route asks for. Many Amritsar students sit General Training for Canada, Australia or a spouse visa, and the required score sets how long you should train.

  2. 2

Do not judge a centre by its hoardings

Ranjit Avenue is full of banners showing high band scores. Ask how many students actually reached those scores, from which batch, and whether you can speak to one of them.

  3. 3

Pick a centre on your daily route

Most coaching is around the District Shopping Complex on Ranjit Avenue, with smaller clusters at Kabir Park opposite GNDU and in City Centre near the bus stand. If you travel in from Tarn Taran, Ajnala or Batala, a centre near the bus stand can save an hour a day.

  4. 4

Sit in on a demo class

A demo shows you how the trainer explains, how quickly the class moves and whether students actually get time to speak. Most Amritsar centres offer one free.

  5. 5

    Ask who corrects your Writing

Writing is where most students lose marks. Find out how many essays and letters are corrected each week, who corrects them and how detailed the feedback is.

  6. 6

Insist on regular full mock tests

A good course includes several full-length timed mocks, with your mistakes reviewed one by one. Ask how many are included in the fee and whether they are on computer or paper.

  7. 7

Check batch size, not just the brand

Some large centres run batches of 30 or more. If your Speaking needs work, look for a smaller batch or extra one-to-one Speaking slots.

  8. 8

Keep coaching and visa advice separate in your mind

Many Amritsar institutes also file study and spouse visas. That can be convenient, but the IELTS course should stand on its own. Do not sign up for a visa package just to get a coaching discount, and check that any consultant you use is properly registered.

  9. 9

Practise in the format you will sit

IDP’s Amritsar centre on Ranjit Avenue runs the computer-delivered test. If you plan to take it there, practise typing your essays and reading on screen so nothing feels new on the day.

  10. 10

    Get every charge in writing

Confirm the course fee, registration, material and mock test charges, and the refund rules, before you pay.

IELTS Test Centres in Amritsar

In India, IELTS tests are delivered by IDP. British Council stopped running IELTS tests in India in 2021, although it still co-owns the test. Amritsar is an IDP test city, with a centre in the District Shopping Complex, B-Block, Ranjit Avenue, offering both computer-delivered and paper-based IELTS. If the dates you need are full, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Moga are the nearest other test cities. Always book through the official IDP IELTS India website.

Test dates, available slots and whether a centre offers the computer-delivered or paper-based test change often, so book early and plan your coaching to finish a few weeks before your test date.
