The Nursing Bridging Program (often called an Adaptation Course) is a 6-month intensive program designed for international nurses. It bridges the gap between your home country's nursing education and the European Union (EU) healthcare standards, allowing you to become a Registered Nurse (RN) in Malta.
Yes. One of the unique benefits of the Malta pathway is that after completing your registration and working as a nurse in Malta for one year, you can apply for the UK NMC registration. Under current guidelines, if you have practiced in an English-speaking healthcare clinical setting (like Malta) for a year, you may be eligible for an English language waiver.
While Studying: You can work part-time (20 hours/week) as a Healthcare Assistant, earning roughly €800 – €1,000 per month. As a Registered Nurse: Once licensed, starting salaries typically range from €24,000 to €30,000 per year, with experienced or specialized nurses earning up to €45,000+.
Yes. After you have completed the 6-month bridging program and secured a full-time job as a Registered Nurse, you are eligible to apply for a Family Re-union visa. This allows your spouse and children to join you in Malta.
The program generally accepts applicants between 19 and 45 years of age. Both male and female nurses are encouraged to apply.
To begin your application, you will need:
● Nursing Degree/Diploma certificates and transcripts.
● Valid Nursing Council Registration from your home country.
● Proof of at least 1 year of clinical experience within the last 5 years.
● A valid Passport.
● Updated CV (Europass format recommended).
Yes. Since Malta is a member of the Schengen Area, working there grants you a residence permit that allows visa-free travel across 29 European countries. After 5 years of legal residence and employment, you can apply for Long-Term Residency (PR).
● Easier Entry: The bridging program is a faster route for those who find the direct OSCE or initial IELTS/OET requirements of the UK/Ireland challenging.
● Lower Cost of Living: Malta offers a high quality of life with significantly lower rent and living expenses compared to London or Dublin.
● Weather: Enjoy a warm, Mediterranean climate all year round!
